The Institute aims at certifying the competence of Real Estate practitioners and recognises the prior training and experiences especially those who are already employed in Real Estate and other related fields. It allows transfer of credits and work experience. The programmes are designed to enable participants put the learned skills to work and immediate improvement in work performance.
These are skills development programmes with practical hands-on approach on day-to-day occurrences and trends. It is occupational competence based on labour market assessment that scans profiles, sets standards and assessments done on principles of competence in Real Estate practice. The training and assessment has two (2) levels on modular basis before one registers for Specialist practice which train graduates and apprentices in Real Estate.
5.1 Assessment
Evaluation is by means of assignments and a four hour written examination. Where necessary, a take home exam is given where it involves practical research on a certain given subject. In order to be admitted to the examination, someone must have attained an average evaluation mark of at least 40% in the assessment.
To successfully quality for a certificate of Real Estate Practice, participants will have to obtain an aggregate pass mark of 50%. The examination will carry a weight of 60% of its mark and the assignment of 40%.
5.2 Climbing the Real Estate Professional Ladder to Fellowship
A participant who attains Level One (Foundation) competence in Real Estate is supposed to work under minimum supervision while the one who attains Level Two (Advanced) can work on his/her own including operating private office and becomes a supervisor of level one graduates.
The level three graduates become Specialists and/or Consultants having exhibited exceptional competence and work performance.
The duration of study is four (4) months for Foundation and Advanced programmes while Specialist programme takes six (6) months of which two are for report writing. The graduates of Specialist programmes are trained and equipped with skills that enable them to stand out from the crowd of practitioners by exhibiting practical outstanding performance, When one is unsuccessful, he/she undergoes more assessment on job to enable him/her acquire the right skills. One who manages to acquire a minimum of three (3) Specialists programmes becomes a Fellow Member of Real Estate professional fraternity.
